Anyone (2009)

This song was partly inspired by 10cc’s immortal I’m Not In Love, where the deep-in-denial narrator insists that he’s, like, so over her, when we know the opposite is true. Flight of the Conchords’ I’m Not Crying is another great example of this device. But instead of a lovelorn torch song, here the narrator is in love, but claims it’s no big thing – he could fall in love with anyone, albeit with a few, incredibly precise conditions.
I think I’m in love
I think that’s the reason
I think that’s the word
For the way that I’m feeling

But it doesn’t mean anything
When all is said and down
‘Cos I, I could fall in love with anyone

I could fall in love with anyone
Who is one in a million billion and one
Anyone who’s perfect as the day is long
I could fall in love with anyone

I think I’m love
And if I’m mistaken
Then it’s a mistake
That I’m always making

It doesn’t take anything
Just a look and I’m done
‘Cos I, I could fall in love with anyone

I could fall in love with anyone
Who walks and talks and smiles the way you do
Anyone in every way exactly just like you
I could fall in love with anyone
