You Me Eternity (2013)

I’m not sure what brought on this astronomy themed love song – possibly reading too much science fiction. I also wanted to take the familiar “we’ll always be together” sentiment found in so many songs and push it to nth degree. I don’t know if the final verse – which basically says, “hey baby, even when the earth is destroyed and our carbonised atoms are floating in the void of space, we’ll still be together, yeah!” – successfully does that or just comes across as creepy and weird. Can it be both?
When we watch the stars go by
I wonder could it be
That all those stars up in the sky
Are looking back at you and me?

And do they see, what I see?

Only you, you and me and eternity
Only you, you and me and eternity
Only you, you and me and eternity

Like two stars we are aligned
Our courses predetermined
But I am just you satellite
To your gravity returning

And it will be, it will be

Only you, you and me and eternity
Only you, you and me and eternity
Only you, you and me and eternity

When the asteroid collides
When the earth and sky ignite
When we are dust and gas and ice
Floating on in endless night

Then it will be, it will be

Only you, you and me and eternity
Only you, you and me and eternity
Only you, you and me and eternity
